Upcoming Google-made smartwatch leaks

Folks over at Android Police managed to get an insider info about what Google is cooking next. Aside from their own Nexus line of smartphone and tablet, seems like the search-giant is already prepping their own smartwatch.

While AP doesn’t want to exactly confirm the info stating that they’re giving the rumor a confidence level of 7 out of 10, the render pictured above is quite juicy to look at. It’s just beautiful if you ask us but, as with any rumor, things could change in the coming days. Nevertheless, here are the upcoming Google smartwatches.

The two wearables have a codename of Angelfish and Swordfish with the former being the bigger device. Aside from its large display, the Angelfish will have additional “shoulder” buttons and sports a more detailed watch face. On the other hand, the Swordfish is a cleaner and smaller sibling. Among the two, it’s also the only one that seems to support Google MODE Android Wear bands. Specs-wise, the Angelfish is a standalone smartwatch complete with LTE, GPS, and heart rate sensor while the Swordfish is more of an affordable variant voided of any features mentioned.

All of this rumor leads us to think that Google is stepping up its game on hardware. Well, why not? The Nexus and Pixel line of products proved that Google is capable of designing the best for their software with OEMs following suit.

Pebble intros three new wearables for the active user

Pebble has introduced three new models in the wearable segment targeted towards individuals with an active lifestyle — the Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2, and Pebble Core.

For the exterior, the Pebble 2 features a rectangular Gorilla Glass “anti-scratch lens coating” display to better reinforce the device against damages. The company embedded it with a heart rate monitor so you could keep track of your activity for the whole day. It also carries a 10-day claimed battery life and is water-resistant up to 30 meters. The Pebble 2 comes with a built-in microphone for voice replies and taking down notes.

Running on an updated Pebble Timeline software, it is the company’s most affordable watch yet at only $99 on Kickstarter and will later on retail for $129.

Next up is the Pebble Time 2. Just like the Pebble 2, it has a heart rate sensor, a microphone, and a 10-day battery life. What’s different is that it is now made of premium materials in gold, silver, and black color variants and sports a color e-paper display 50% bigger than its predecessor.

It has a Kickstarter price of $169 and will sell for $199 with the same updated Pebble Timeline software.

Finally, we have the Pebble Core. This wearable reminiscent of the old Instagram logo  clips to your clothes so that you may no longer bring your smartphone when you go out for a run. It basically tracks your pace and distance using GPS and provides entertainment through Spotify. It also listens to you when you need to jot down notes and works with a SIM card for functions on a cellular network.

It can be ordered right now through Kickstarter for $69 and will soon sell for $99 in January of next year.

Xiaomi outs Mi Bunny — smartwatch for kids w/ SOS button

Xiaomi has launched a smartwatch and it’s not like any other smartwatch available in the market today. This is mainly because the Mi Bunny is dedicated for kids and their safety.

Also known as the Mitu Watch, it’s made of plastic with silicon straps to make it more comfortable to wear for the young ones. Connectivity-wise, it’s got Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as well as an included prepaid SIM card for receiving calls.

The Mi Bunny also has a special SOS button that when pressed, sends its GPS location to the partnered mobile device and comes with a short audio recording. This way, the kid could be trained to press it and say a few words as to what the emergency is about, for example.

This smartwatch for kids is priced at CNY299 (approx. Php2.1K) and comes with more helpful features like setting a certain safe zone that, when your kid exits, notifies you through your device. That’s just some of its tricks up its sleeve which you can all read about in Xiaomi’s page.
