NPYDA 2014 awards 4 Winners

Nippon Paint Young Designer Award (NPYDA) is a recognition that aims to inspire students across 10 countries in Asia to apply creativity and sustainability in improving their communities. This year, for the first time in the Philippines, green entries dominate the said competition.

The theme of the NPYDA 2014 id “Re:Think. Re:Create. Our Community, Our Home.” Out of nearly 200 hopefuls, top 10 entries were selected vying for the top prize in interior design and architecture categories.

The entries for the interior design were from University of Santo Tomas’ Jestefanie Tanchuling, April Jan Molino, Syril Jendryl Clemente, and Liana Bianca Limjoco, University of San Carlos’ Kristine Caballes, Stacy Mae Chan, and Hannah Marie Betonio, Philippine Women’s University’s Mark John Acoba, University of the Philippines-Diliman’s kristel Anne Poyaoan, and La Consolacion College-Bacolod’s Raiza Gangoso.

Under the architecture category, submissions were from Technological University of the Philippines-Manila’s Jason Labacanacruz and Daisy Antonio, Adamson University’s Arian Sustento, Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology-Manila’s Lloyd Hopanda, Daisy Antonio and Jose Laserna, jr., National university’s Roldan Lopena and Neil Gardonia, and University of the Philippines-Diliman’s Rod Kevin Gonzales, and Tarlac State University’s Rewin John Corpuz.

“We are amazed with the diverse and creative entries submitted by Filipino interior design and architecture students. It just goes to show the rising awareness as well as strong passion that today’s young generation have for creating green communities and sustainable living,” said Gladys Goh, Group General Manager of Nippon Paint Malaysia Group.

The winners from the interior design category are Kristine Caballes (Champion) and Jestafanie Tanchuling (1st runner up). The champion in under the architecture category is Jason B. Labacabacruz while the 1st runner up is Llyod Hopanda.

Nippon Paint, Asia’s No. coatings manufacturer, kicks-off the Nippon Paint Young Designer Award (NPYDA) in the Philippines with the theme “Re:Think. Re:Create Our Community, Our Home”. This prestigious contest gives Filipino architecture and interior design students the chance to compete with representative across 10 countries in the Asia Pacific Region.

“Nippon Paint has a long-standing belief that the ability to break convention and boundaries is found in the minds of the young, the new generation who will be the designers and builders of the future,” said Gladys Goh, Group general Manager of Nippon Paint Malaysia Group. “Young talent is a valuable resource, one that needs to be nurtured and developed so that all of society can benefit. By giving them the opportunity to be acknowledged by their peers as well as industry professionals, we hope to give them a head-start in their chosen profession.”

The theme “Re:Think. Re:Create Our Community, Our Home” is the extension of Nippon Paint’s philosophy of helping cultivate young talent by driving them to new standards of excellence and providing them greater visibility and exposure not only in the Philippines but throughout the Asia Pacific region. This theme also challenges the participants to further push their boundaries for future living by creating a township that is community-centric and sustainable, providing a high quality life for all ages and all walks of life.
The two categories of NPYDA are architecture and interior design. These are both open to students who are at least on their third year from schools affiliated with the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) and the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID). This contest is also made possible with the help of reputable professional societies like the Council of Interior Design Educator (CIDE) and the Council of Deans and Heads in Architecture Schools in the Philippines (CODHASP).
Deadline of submission of entries is on October 31, 2014. The Gold winner per category will win P50,000.00 cash prize, a 6-month internship at Lor Calma & Partners plus a fully-paid trip to Japan for the Japan Learning Program that will start in March 2015.
