Qatar Airways increase frequency on Doha-Manila Route

Qatar Airways will be adding six extra flights per week between Doha and Manila starting from October 26, 2015, following an expanded Air Service Agreement signed between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Philippines.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “The increase in flight frequencies on the Doha–Manila route serves to further strengthen commercial and trade links between our two countries and we are delighted to be able to provide our Philippines-based passengers with greater connectivity options when they choose to fly with Qatar Airways. Now, more passengers will be able to experience our award-winning hospitality and also our state-of-the-art Hamad International Airport when transiting seamlessly onward to their final destination. Passengers travelling with Qatar Airways beyond Doha can also look forward to flying on some of the world’s most advanced aircraft, including the A350 XWB.”

The Doha-based carrier, most recently crowned Airline of the Year at the 2015 annual Skytrax World Airline Awards, is currently flying eight flights per week to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.

With the increase in weekly flights, Qatar Airways will operate a full twice-daily service to Manila, in addition to its daily flights between Clark and Doha.

The Doha – Manila route is operated by the Boeing 777 aircraft, featuring 24 Business Class seats and 356 seats in Economy Class. Passengers travelling in Business Class can look forward to relaxing in one of the most comfortable and high-tech, fully-flat beds with a 78-inch seat pitch. Qatar Airways’ premium passengers can also enjoy its five-star food and beverage service, which is served ‘dine on demand’.

Qatar Airways Premium and Economy Class passengers travelling beyond Doha can also enjoy the airline’s state-of-the-art home base, Hamad International Airport (HIA). Home to one of the world’s best and largest Business Class lounges, the Al Mourjan Business Lounge, HIA also has more than 70 retail and 30 food and beverage outlets offering world-class duty free shopping and dining experiences for all.

PAL Mabuhay Lounge to undergo renovations

Starting 15 June – 15 August 2015, Philippine Airlines’ Mabuhay Lounge (domestic) in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA 2) will undergo renovations.

While the lounge is being renovated, Mabuhay Miles Elite, Premier Elite, Million Milers, Business Class and Premium Economy PAL domestic passengers shall be extended a pre-flight refreshment vouchers upon check-in.

Passengers may use the vouchers at the following outlets: Cafe France, Yan Kun Kaya Toast or Vin-Vin Kiosk located between Gate 5 and 6.

PAL is very excited to see its loyal passengers in their newly renovated Mabuhay Lounge (domestic) when it opens in August 2015.

Cathay Pacific opens new lounge at NAIA

Cathay Pacific Airways will open a new lounge for passengers travelling out of Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. Located at Level 4 near Gate 114 in Manila NAIA Terminal 3, the lounge adopts the new Studioilse design template first used in the airline’s lounge at Haneda Airport in Tokyo.

The Manila lounge measures 650 square metres which is almost twice as large as the previous lounge at Manila Airport Terminal 1, and can seat approximately 135 people. The brand-new lounge offers a comfortable environment and understated luxury for First and Business Class passengers to relax before their flight.

Designed by Studioilse, the London-based design studio led by Ilse Crawford, the aim is to bring to life Cathay Pacific’s new brand design ethos, and to create an environment that helps passengers feel relaxed, engaging the senses and focusing on wellbeing as a core principle. This has been achieved by working with warm, natural materials like wood and stone, softening the acoustics where possible and adopting a considered approach to lighting.

Cherry wood walls and a limestone floor are framed with details such as glazed screens, green ceramic tiles in The Noodle Bar, bronze highlights in the main entrance and brass in the Bar. The extensive use of plants gives colour and life to the space, while works by Philippine artists add an element of local culture.

The overall feeling of the lounge is of a domestic space, more like a living room than an airline lounge. Natural sunlight filters through the windows. Designer furniture and lighting have been carefully selected for practicality and comfort. Bespoke chairs and side tables with in-built lamps and sockets are placed by the windows where passengers can enjoy the view of the airport runway and beyond. The Bureau provides three individual workstations with dual operating system iMacs and printers. Free Wi-Fi access is also available throughout the lounge.

With a greater focus on food and beverage services, the dining area features Cathay Pacific’s signature Noodle Bar, a popular facility at the airline’s world-renowned lounges at Hong Kong International Airport, which offers a selection of Asian noodles including dandan mien and wonton noodle soup, freshly prepared by a chef. During the morning hours until 11:00am, an authentic Philippine breakfast will also be offered. Another dining highlight is the Bar, where passengers can enjoy a wide selection of tapas, desserts, freshly blended cocktails and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

The new lounge in Manila is designed above all to reflect the Cathay Pacific brand experience and to offer passengers both relaxation and enjoyment, whether they are returning home to Hong Kong or starting on a longer journey.

dnata expands commitment to Philippines

Over the past six months, dnata has strengthened its commitment to the economic development and tourism industry in the Philippines with the opening of a new lounge at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International airport (NAIA) and a contact centre in Clark.

dnata first entered the Philippines in 1998, with a team of 80 providing ground handling services to one cargo airline. Since that time, the company has continued to grow and now employs more than 300 people between its airport operations and contact centre.

“The Philippines is important to dnata’s growth strategy,” said Gary Chapman, President, dnata. “There is considerable potential in the region, with its strong commitment to tourism and services— two industries dnata has deep experience in. I expect the relationship between dnata and the Philippines to continue to grow, just as it has since 1998.”

On 11th February 2015, dnata opened its newest lounge at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 3. Open 24-hours a day, the lounge will welcome the premium passengers of customer airline, Emirates, as well as bank premium cardholders.

“The lounge will provide passengers of our customer airlines a quiet break from their travel,” said Margaret Yu, CEO, dnata Philippines. “Passenger traffic from NAIA continues to grow, having doubled since 2005, and the demand for passenger lounges has grown with it. Our Skyview lounge will be a premium airport experience for passengers transiting through Terminal 3.”

This is the first lounge dnata will operate in the international hub, and the 13th lounge in eight airports around the globe. Passengers accessing the Skyview Lounge will find an international selection of hot and cold food, a range of beverages, televisions, newspapers and business centres with everything needed to ensure comfort and productivity.

In September 2014, dnata opened a new contact centre facility in Clark, supporting the needs of all dnata businesses, from corporate travel to baggage handling services. The 700-seat facility can support up to 1,500 full-time local jobs through its 24-hour operations.

“Clark was the perfect choice for our new contact centre,” said Iain Andrew, Divisional Senior Vice President, dnata Travel. “The city is strategically positioned in the heart of the growing Asia-Pacific market, the population is highly educated, and much of the employee base is multi-lingual. The facility has the capacity to grow with our business, and its capabilities are a valuable resource to our global businesses, our travel customers, and our airline partners.”

The centre currently offers services in English, Mandarin, Spanish and Tagalog. When fully operational, the facility will be able to handle more than 500,000 customer contacts each month.
