Megan Young proclaimed Miss World… a first for the Philippines!

Is the Philippines going the way of Venezuela for having the most world beauty queens? Yay!

We have just received the news that Megan Lynne Young of Olongapo City, the Philippine candidate to the Miss World beauty pageant in Bali Indonesia, has been proclaimed Miss World 2013. The title has been elusive for the Philippines for so long. While Filipinas won in other prestigious pageants like Miss Universe, this is the first time that a Philippine bet has been bestowed the Miss World title.

Here are snippets of the Miss World 2013 live telecast leading up to the winner announcement of Megan as the new Miss World. The pageant was held at the Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia.

She follows the lead of Mutya Johanna Datul who was named Miss Supranational 2013 in Minsk, Belarus, an Eastern European country.

Megan Young sealed her win when asked the question “Why should you be Miss World? ” in the finals. She answered: ” I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do. I will use this to show other people how they can understand each other. … as one, we can help society”

The 23 year-old Megan is an actress in the Philippines and was studying Digital Film Making at the De La Salle University College of St. Benilde. She stands 5 feet 8 inches.
