Panasonic takes on the Galaxy K Zoom with Lumix CM1

Because of the lackluster sales of its Eluga line of handsets, Panasonic had to take a step back from making Android smartphone. But it seems that the Japanese firm may have not totally given up on Android and decided to launch the Lumix DMC-CM1, a hybrid device that’s part flagship smartphone and part camera similar to the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom.

We haven’t had the opportunity to actually hold the camera in our hands, but from its looks down to its core components, the Lumix CM1 blows the Galaxy K Zoom (or any similar device for that matter) out of the water.

For starters, it’s equipped with a 1-inch high-sensitivity MOS sensor that’s comparable to that of enthusiast cameras like the Canon G1X Mark II and the Sony RX100 III.

To fully maximize its fairly large sensor, Panasonic paired it with a fast Leica DC Elmarit lens that has an aperture of f/2.8 at its widest and can go all the way up to f/11. Around the lens is a manual control ring which can be assigned to different camera functions for easy access.

Not only does the Lumix CM1 have a beastly camera specs, it also has a flagship-level internals to match it. Running the show for this hybrid Android device is 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage which can be expanded to 128GB if needed. Storage expansion will really come in handy since the Lumix CM1 is capable of shooting 4K videos right from the get go.

Other notable features of Panasonic’s new device include a 4.7-inch display with 1080p resolution, 2600mAh battery and a connectivity suite comprising of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.
