Gramohorn II: an $8,000 speaker for the HTC One

As some of you may know, HTC has lately been struggling to keep up with the big boys of the smartphone industry. And in an effort to regain its place in the running, the company has resorted to various campaigns; one of which involves an EIGHT-GRAND-worth passive speaker called the Gramohorn II.

Call it insane, but the company seems to be pretty ecstatic about this ludicrously-priced speaker which was born out of their “Here’s to Creativity” initiative.

But enough about the price, let’s talk about how this thing actually works. What these 3D-printed gramophones do is it amplifies the sound coming out of the HTC One’s pair of BoomSound speakers. Therefore, there are no dangling wires or wireless connection needed to get this up and running.

The Gramohorn II is offered in two different materials; the milled-steel model is the one being retailed for $8,000. Meanwhile, the “cheaper” version made of plaster-based resin will set you back an eye-watering Php69,000 before taxes. As a consolation though, you get to pick from 28 available colors and have it spray-painted on your Gramohorn II.
