Nice to have you, Mr. Jones!

All-day breakfast places are the trend these days and they seem to be sprouting up all over Manila. But before all of them I fondly remember Mr. Jones … a favorite of the family on the resto row of Makati’s Greenbelt 5.

It’s a nicely-decorated diner with touches of Americana and big Western-style servings.

Expect that you won’t get bored with the menu because the kitchen always adds a twist to ordinary favorites. Here are some photos of the delish food I’ve eaten in Mr. Jones through the years:

Over breakfast recently, I waved the calorie fears away with an order of their Pancake Stack in Banana Walnut (P325). In true Mr. Jones style, I thought the serving was ample enough to last me till afternoon snacks. I was surprised that the walnut toppings were not pea-sized but rather ginormous and most of all, the pancakes were at their fluffiest. Orange slices, butter, whipped cream and maple syrup completed this food ensemble.

The Challah French Toast (P395) is proving to be my new favorite. For how can you resist all these sinful goodness in one package: two pieces French toast stuffed with Nutella and raspberry preserve, then topped with caramelized bananas and crispy bacon… all the while spread with whipped cream, powdered sugar, maple syrup and whipped butter, if you like.

Surely, something like this will take you to the gates of heaven and back? Sorry Dan Brown :)

For the meat-lover, there’s the Grilled Double Smoked Bacon & Corned Beef Hash. Pair this with two eggs cooked in the way you like, roasted rosemary breakfast potatoes and Texas toast.

Old hands will surely be familiar with Mr. Jones’ Famous US Ribcap Tapa (P320) … thin beef slices fried and made flavorful with the house’s special marinade. There’s no better way to celebrate an all-Filipino breakfast than this. But we are glad to know that there are now also similar items in the menu, in case you want to try things other than tapa. There’s Chicken Tocino, Corned Beef & Fried Potatoes, Skinless Longanisa and Glazed Pineapple Spam.

Okay, aside from its great food, I love this place because there is something in it which reminds me about kids and being a child again. Who wouldn’t love Toblerone and milkshakes?
