6 places in PH with free public Wi-Fi starting next week

We’ve recently reported about DOST’s plan to populate the entire country with wireless hotspots by the end of the year, and they’re kickstarting the project this month. Initially starting with four wireless hotspots, GMA News reports six specific locations around Metro Manila that will have free public Wi-Fi starting next week. Find out where after the break.

wifi-philippines_1

These are the places with free public Wi-Fi starting July 24, 2015:

  1. Quezon Memorial Circle
  2. Quezon City Hall
  3. SSS Easy Avenue
  4. LTO East Avenue
  5. PCA Bldg., PHILCOA
  6. Rizal Park, Manila

Do take note that per area, the hotspot could only accommodate up to 300 users with 50MB of allocated data per day.

Eventually, we will be having free public Wi-FI in the following areas:

Public Plazas and Parks
Public Primary and Secondary Central Schools
Public Libraries
Rural Health Units & Government Hospitals
State Universities & Colleges
Train Stations of the MRT and LRT systems
Airports and Seaports
City and Municipal Halls
National Government Offices

The Philippine government reportedly allotted Php1.4 billion for this project alone since research from World Bank shows that a country’s progression is faster when it goes along with the technological advancements. The study shows that an increase of 10% in national connectivity yields an extra 1.38% in GDP (gross domestic product).

Stay tuned as we wait for more announcements as to where we could have access to free Internet nationwide.
