Behind the Blue Oval by Ford at NAIAS 2014

For about 4 years now, Ford Motors invite selected bloggers from around the globe to attend and visit the North American International Auto Show. This year, the number has grown to over 120 bloggers from 12 different countries.

Aside from their official booth at the NAIAS itself, Ford mounted a huge blogger lounge called Behind the Blue Oval. This is where all the activities happened for us — the talk by Ford CEO Allan Mulally, the display of the new 2015 Ford Mustang and many other Ford vehicles, a clay sculpture of the cars at 40% to scale, lots of workstations, a bar and catering.

Of course, the Ford Mustang is always the highlight of the venue. It’s the 50th year anniversary of the Mustang which started way back in 1964 so Ford introduced an all-new design.

However, the hybrid Ford Fusion also got some attention as well as the F150. I also liked the new yellow Ford Fiesta Sport with recaro-type seats.

We also did a tour of their Research and Development facility, took a closer look at 3D printing, an inside look at the design and development of the 2015 Ford Mustang as well as a test drive of Ford vehicles around town (details and photos of which will be for another day).

Disclosure: Ford Motors USA provided for our trip and stay in Detroit to cover this event.
