ASUS seeds Android KitKat update for PadFone 2

Nearly two years after it made its official debut, ASUS hasn’t totally forgotten about the FonePad 2, and has even released a firmware update for it, bringing the software version to 4.4 or more commonly known as Android KitKat.

If you guys can remember, the ASUS PadFone 2 was launched with Android Jelly bean version 4.1.1 pre-installed on it. It skipped 4.2 and 4.3 altogether and has leaped to Android 4.4, joining it successor, the PadFone S, on the KitKat bandwagon.

Asus Padfone 2 specs:
4.7-inch LG Super IPS+ panel @ 720p, 1280×720 pixels, 700nits (phone)
10.1-inch HD IPS display, 1280×800 (tablet)
Qualcomm S4 Pro APQ8064 quad core processor 1.5GHz
Adreno 320 GPU
2GB RAM
16GB, 32GB, 64GB internal storage
up to 32GB via microSD
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0
HSPA+ 42Mbps
GPS w/ aGPS support
13MP Sony CCD rear camera, LED flash
1080p @ 30fps, 720p @ 60fps
Li-Ion 2140mAh battery (phone)
Li-Ion 5000mAh battery (tablet)
Upgraded to Android Kitkat (4.4)
135 grams (weight)
137.9 x 68.9 x 9mm (dimensions)

Sadly, the company didn’t seed the update through OTA. Instead, PadFone 2 users would have to install the update manually. Furthermore, the update will wipe the device’s storage clean, so it’s best if you backup your files before anything else.

The Android 4.4 update can be downloaded on ASUS’ official website which can be found on the source link below.
