Production of BlackBerry Classic comes to an end

In a blog post by Ralph Pini, COO and GM for Devices at BlackBerry, he announced that the company will no longer be manufacturing the iconic BlackBerry Classic which has been a reliable workhorse device for a lot during its time — some, until now.

The move was made so that they can offer their customers something fresh and better. They also believe that the Classic has already lived out its life and they are ready to move on.

“[T]he hardest part in letting go is accepting that change makes way for new and better experiences, said Pini”.

“To keep innovating and advancing our portfolio, we are updating our smartphone lineup with state of the art devices. As part of this, and after many successful years in the market, we will no longer manufacture BlackBerry Classic, he added”.

For those who are still planning to buy a BlackBerry Classic, you can still check online sellers for the last few stocks available or through local carriers if available.

Pini closed his post by saying that he is looking forward to giving consumers a new and better experience. We’re anxious to see what that will be, so here’s to us looking forward to those, too.

The culprit behind iPod Classic’s death

iPod dominated the MP3 player market for years. It began with the first iPod with a circular trackpad and more variants came after. But just when iPhone 6/6 Plus was launched, Apple pulled the iPod Classic from the store. Why?

There have been multiple speculations about the slow death of the loved iPod until September 9, 2014 but Apple is mum about it. For 5 years, it has stayed the same with no slight change in design or anything. There is just one reason behind it, parts.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, explained during WSJDLive conference on Monday that Apple mowed down the iPod Classic because it was unable to acquire parts for the device. Simple, huh? How come a gigantic company can’t simply order parts or create an updated iPod Classic with flash storage? We don’t know exactly if that is the real deal but one thing’s for sure, iPod Classic will be missed.

If people are still thinking that BlackBerry is dead, well here is another upcoming device from the Canadian manufacturer who isn’t giving up yet.

BlackBerry Q10, BlackBerry 9900, BlackBerry Passport

The BlackBerry Classic will feature the immortal optical trackpad that most users loved before the emergence of touch displays, hence a ‘classic’ feature. Aside from the trackpad, it will also have a physical BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard, 3.5-inch display, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, and 2GB of RAM. BlackBerry 10.3 will welcome users once turned on.

Presumed to be announced next month along with other new BlackBerry smartphones, the Passport should cater to those who just can’t leave BlackBerry for great reasons. Typing on a physical keyboard is still different for virtual ones.
