Cherry Mobile Flare 3 Quick Review

When it comes to pricing their devices Cherry Mobile has been known to offer decent specs at affordable price points. One device that backs up this claim is the Flare 3 which we were able to try out for a period of time. Is it a phablet worth your money? Read on our Quick Review to find out. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_quick_review The only buttons you’ll find in the Flare 3 are the Power/Lock Screen button and volume rocker which are both nestled at the upper part of the right side. During our time exploring the device, it was easy locking and unlocking the phone even while using one hand. On the bottom are the Options, Home, and Back capacitive buttons; while right under them are the microUSB port and microphone. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_4 Up top, the 3.5mm audio jack sits alone. The device inherits the rounded corners commonly seen in CM handsets which is okay as it goes easy on the hands and somehow aids in handling. In addition, it has a 3MP front facing camera on its usual position next to the speaker for calls. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_5 The entire back plastic cover has a glossy finish, while its 8MP rear camera is positioned right in the middle of the device with a single LED flash under it. The device and company’s name are printed on the cover. We also have the speaker grille that is lodged at the lower left of the back panel, and as seen on the first image, the camera is protruding making it lie against the surface when it rests flat on its back. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_2 The Flare 3 runs on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. Out of the box it comes pre-loaded with proprietary apps like Cherry Fun Club, Cherry Play, and Pinoy App Shop which, as the name suggests, is our very own app store that features local-made applications. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_UI Navigation of the UI was a smooth-sailing affair, while app transitioning proved to be a breeze. It doesn’t have any customization on top of its OS so you’ll deal stock Android with the Flare 3. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_3 This phablet sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and LED flash. What we noticed was that even outdoors, the images lost detail and exposure was a bit off. Up front it has a 3-megapixel camera which has its own beautification mode for those precious selfies. It also proved sufficient for video calls, although not that great. We have a few samples below for your reference.

Inside the Flare 3 is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz partnered with 1GB of RAM. We’ve installed different apps and games on it but the device handled them pretty well – to the point that we were actually impressed as it could run console-like games with ease. In this department the Flare 3 delivered well. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_benchmark Here are the benchmark results:

AnTuTu – 17,900
Quadrant Standard – 7,247
NenaMark2 – 60.9fps

With our usual battery test, we looped an HD video with brightness and volume set to 100%. It lasted us close to 5 ½ hours which is just about right for a 5-inch handset with nearly 2000mAh battery. Do note that its battery is removable so if anything happens to it, users could easily replace it with a new one. Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_1 The Cherry Mobile Flare 3 is a device that brings a lot to the table without asking for much. Although we’re not fans of an all-plastic build, it’s got the latest version of Android OS, a decent processor, and a spacious display all under Php4K. We could say that it’s worth the Php3,999 if you’d snag a Flare 3 for yourself.

Cherry Mobile Flare 3 vs. THL T6s

THL came out with the T6s only recently (and set to be released on September 6) to directly compete with the very popular Flare 3 from Cherry Mobile.

While the CM Flare 3 is looking to be among the best Kitkat-powered smartphone under the Php4k price-point, there’s an apparent lack of stocks in stores, prompting potential buyers to look somewhere else.

We pitted it against the MyPhone Agua Rio, the Asus Zenfone 4, and a few others.

Now, we compare it against the THL T6s.

It looks like the Cherry Mobile Flare 3 still has a few more points above the THL T6s — both the front and rear cameras of the Flare 3 has higher megapixels. The battery capacity has a slight difference but it’s not that significant.

The only thing the THL T6s has going for it is the better-looking design and slimmer profile. In any case, unless Cherry Mobile has addressed the issue on availability, THL still has a chance to get the T6s out in the market and maybe even selling more units.

Cherry Mobile Flare 3 vs MyPhone Agua Rio: Specs comparison

With Cherry Mobile setting new standards on getting more for your money’s worth with the Flare 3, they surpassed other brands that supposedly offer low price for decent specs. Cherry Mobile Flare 3 unboxed, first impressions

Cherry Mobile has introduced the Flare 3 yesterday during their event. We were lucky enough to get ourselves a brand new unit so we immediately unboxed it and here are our first impressions on the device while we prep up the full review.

Cherry_Mobile_Flare_3_first_impressions

The Cherry Mobile Flare S3 is a 5-inch phablet that utilizes a plastic build all around. Because of this, you’ll immediately notice that the device is light when you pick it up to hold it. On the face of the handset we have the scratch-resistant IPS display with One-Glass Solution (OGS) technology that helps in making the elements in the screen pop out more.

On the bottom are the Options, Home, and Back capacitive buttons; while right under them are the microUSB port and microphone.

The only buttons you’ll find in the Flare 3 are the Power/Lock Screen button and volume rocker which are both nestled at the upper part of the right side. During our brief time exploring the device, it was easy locking and unlocking the phone even while using one hand.

Up top, the 3.5mm audio jack sits alone. The device inherits the rounded corners commonly seen in CM handsets which is okay as it goes easy on the hands and somehow aids in handling. Also seen below is the 3MP front facing camera next to the speaker for calls.

The entire back plastic cover has a glossy finish. Here, the 8MP rear camera is positioned right in the middle of the device with a single LED flash under it. As seen on the first image, the camera is protruding making it lie against the surface when it rests flat on its back.

The device and company’s name are also printed on the cover. Finally, we have the speaker grille that is lodged at the lower left of the back panel.

The Flare 3 carries a similar form factor as CM’s other devices, but button placements are different than the Flare 2.0. What we’re after here, though, are the above-average specs for its price that should help boost its overall performance. So far, how are you liking the hardware and specs combination of the Flare 3?

We will be discussing more of its performance in the following days. Stay tuned for our review.
