Canon EOS M gets a refresh, promises faster AF

Canon has been slow to adapt to the mirrorless trend, and when they did manage to release their own MILC (EOS M) back in May last year, it wasn’t the game-changer that everybody was hoping it’ll be.

After receiving a considerable amount of criticism from fans and critics alike, particularly for its lackadaisical AF performance, the Japanese camera maker came up with a revamped version of their mirrorless camera which is conveniently named EOS M2.

If you notice on the press shots above, the camera’s design didn’t change one bit. However, according to Canon, the EOS M2 is a different beast altogether and the combination of Hybrid CMOS AF II technology and DIGIC 5 processor allows the camera to lock in on a subject more than two times faster than the previous model, both in One-Shot AF and Multi-Point AF.

Another addition to its arsenal is the built-in Wi-Fi that unlocks features previously missing on the EOS M like wireless photo-sharing through the Canon iMAGE GATEWAY app.

If you’re considering upgrading your EOS M or you’re interested in getting one for the first time, the Canon EOS M2 is going to set you back USD627 for the body alone and an additional USD190 if you opt for the package with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS kit lens.
