In addition to the four new 5th Generation mobile processors, Intel also announced five new desktop SKUs under the Broadwell which includes two Core i7 chips and three Core i5 processors.
Instead of using the usual ‘K’ to denote unlocked processors, Intel uses ‘C’ on the two new overclock-able SKUs. The chipmaker did, however, retains the use of ‘R’ nomenclature for the new soldered processors under the Broadwell lineup.
All of the new desktop processors that Intel launched are based on the chipmaker’s 14nm process. These new SKUs share the same integrated GPU (Intel Iris Pro 6200) and same TDP rated at 65W.
As part of the package, both the CPU and iGPU can take advantage of the Intel Crystal Well – a 128MB eDRAM integrated on the processor die that acts as an L4 Cache.
These new 5th Generation desktop SKUs are expected to be released in the market within a month or two. Users who are planning to upgrade to any of these new processors should be happy to know that all of these chips are compatible with existing Intel 9 Series motherboards.
