Ascott holds Grand Launch of first international serviced residence in Bonifacio Global City

Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila, the first international serviced residence in the Bonifacio Global City, recently formally opened its doors with a stellar Grand Launch held at its Grand Ballroom. The event was graced by the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) Undersecretary Benito Bengzon, Jr. and Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano who served as guests of honor. Also present to show their support were Ascott’s corporate accounts, foreign dignitaries and media.

Guests were welcomed by Ascott’s top management spearheaded by Ascott’s Regional General Manager for Philippines and Thailand, Arthur Gindap; and were taken on a property tour, providing a glimpse of Ascott’s luxurious studio and 1-bedroom units featuring exquisite art and accentuated with indigenous materials. Cocktails and the program proper with a lavish 6-course dinner later ensued. The program was highlighted by speeches from the guest of honor, DOT’s Undersecretary Benito Bengzon, Jr. and Mr. Gindap who gave an overview of the Philippine cluster, its growth and the introduction of its 5th property – Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila. The event capped off with a ceremonial toasting heralding the property’s opening.

Ascott currently operates three brands: Ascott, Citadines and Somerset. The company first entered the Philippines with the inaugural of Somerset Millennium Makati in year 2000. To date, the Philippine cluster has grown to five properties, namely: Somerset Millennium Makati, Somerset Olympia, Ascott Makati, Citadines Salcedo Makati and now, the newly-opened Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila. Soon, the Philippine cluster will reach new milestones with the launch of two more properties – Citadines Millennium Ortigas and Somerset Alabang Manila.

Bonifacio Global City welcomes the first international serviced residence in the booming business district with the opening of Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila, which brings Ascott renowned service – a benchmark of impeccable service.

“The growth of the Bonifacio Global City has been phenomenal,” said Mr. Gindap. “In the past 5-7 years, this part of the city has seen the rise of major real-estate projects from high-end condominiums to commercial and business buildings, as well as retail and dining establishments. And Bonifacio Global City continues to thrive, contributing to the economic growth of Taguig. The Ascott group has been cognizant of the Bonifacio Global City’s booming economy and influx of foreign businesses that have established their offices here. Thus, to cater to these business travelers, Ascott saw the need for a luxurious international serviced residence to serve as their second home. This is why Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila is here today,” he concluded.

Sun Life marks Earth Hour with Philips, WWF

Sun Life of Canada (Phils) Inc. will support Earth Hour on March 29 (Saturday) by switching off the lights from 8:30 to 9:30 pm in its LEED-certified building in Bonifacio Global City.

“Caring for the environment has always been our advocacy at Sun Life and this is heavily instilled in our culture and corporate social responsibility,” said Sun Life Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa. Sun Life is the first company in the Philippines to receive a GOLD Certification from LEED for Core and Shell. Among the environmentally friendly and energy efficient features of the Sun Life Centre are the motion sensor lighting, which automatically shuts off the lights if no one is in the area; and the double glazed glass windows which illuminate the interiors while blocking out the heat. “Marking Earth Hour is our simple way of reiterating our commitment to the environment and enjoining the public to help address the problems of climate change,” Lopa added.

Together with Philips, a staunch supporter of the environment and a tenant of the Sun Life Centre, and the World Wide Fund Philippines (WWF), the organization behind Earth Hour, Sun Life will hold a simple ceremony at the roof deck of their building followed by the switching off of lights. Once the lights are out, Philips LED tea lights, a safe, energy-efficient form of lighting, will be switched on.

According to Philips Country Manager Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, one of their company’s major thrusts is to accelerate the switch to more energy efficient lighting. “The Earth Hour is a good opportunity to further highlight that,” she said. “We’re happy to be working with Sun Life for Earth Hour this year.”
Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. is a member of the Sun Life Financial group of companies, a leading international financial services organization providing a diverse range of protection and wealth products and services to individuals and corporate customers.

Luna Specialty Coffee @ BGC

We’re spending the weekend in Bonifacio Global City because my daughter was sick and had to be confined in St. Luke’s. It’s a golden time to discover the cozy little nooks in the area which I wouldn’t find time to check out, otherwise.

One of the spots on my radar was Luna Specialty Coffee at NAC Tower (which is owned by Rep. Lino Cayetano who is the brother of Sen. Pia Cayetano of Slice at Bonifacio High Street Central). If you wonder where this is in BGC,NAC is beside the new Globe building. Entering the coffeeshop, I immediately warmed up to the cool interiors.

Luna BGC

The place just seats 32 people and has no wi-fi. But there’s an exclusive area called the Chairman’s Room which one can get for meetings and the like for a consumable of P3,000.

Upon being seated, the counter staff gave me one of the calling cards and it took a keen eye to see what was written at the back: “It used to be custom in Turkey that if a husband did not provide his wife with coffee, it was ground for divorce.” LOL.

Since it was my first visit, I liked to keep things simple and ordered their house blend called Luna Brew (P110)

Luna Brew

The barista, Ken, told me they use only 100% freshly-roasted Arabica beans custom-made for Luna by a supplier. So this is the reason why their coffee tasted fresh & smooth. I’d like to try their ice-blended coffee next time made from two candy legends in the Philippines: White Rabbit & Flat Tops! :)

Luna

Since they open starting 7 am, Luna also serves heavy meals and desserts. Curiosity got the better of me and I ordered the Binagoongang Omelette (P180) which had pork bits sauteed in onions, tomatoes and shrimp paste. It’s further topped by a salad of green mangoes. This was okay, I just wished the dish had stronger bagoong taste.

Omelette

The Angus pares (P330) is one of their bestsellers. Aside from having a delectable sauce, its difference from the usual pares (Filipino stew ) is that it’s made of high-quality, tender-to-the-bite Angus beef, hence the name.

Angus Pares

Must check out the pan de sal dishes with special toppings as well. They also have these savories like Salted Egg Tinapa and Triple Mushroom Malunggay quiche (P90 each)

Quiche

For dessert, having the Kakanin Shots (P65 each) is just cool! Leche Flan Yema is a bestseller – a triple layer consisting of yema at the bottom, chiffon cake in the middle and leche flan on top. But Inutak Ube Pandan was great as well – a combination of ube haleya and inutak, a coconut cream delicacy.

Luna desserts

Pies galore: Pecan Pili, Key Calamansi, Apple Singkamas and Pumpkin Kalabasa from P135 to P185, with option to go a la mode (with ice cream)

Luna desserts

Luna’s flavored pie crusts (P30 each) , which look like cookies, go well with their coffee. They have this in Labuyo-Quezo and Muscovado-Cinnamon flavors. They also look cute being placed in those “garapons.”
