Congrats Bea Rose Santiago!

In what is called a grand slam year for Filipino beauty queens, we were happy to learn last night that Bea Rose Santiago was crowned Miss International in Tokyo.

It seemed only a few weeks ago that I met Bea Rose again at the Rexona Do More awards (the first was at the Bb. Pilipinas 2013 presentation where she wasn’t a title holder yet). Here’s a photo I took of her and Pia Wurtzbach in (of all places!) the women’s restroom of the Makati Shang-ri La.

Another photo (rather blurred) of Bea and Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up Ariella “Ara” Arida.

Bea stands 5’10″ and loves travelling. In just a span of two months, she was once in 12 cities in 2 countries.

She now joins Gemma Cruz-Araneta, Aurora Pijuan, Melanie Marquez and Lara Quigaman in the prestigious roster of Filipinas crowned Miss International.

There’s nothing like watching the country’s fairest women compete for the annual Bb. Pilipinas pageant. And there’s nothing like watching it live because you really get to feel the energy and excitement of the crowd who are rooting for their fave candidates.

Bb. Pilipinas 2013

My favorite portion is of course the Q & A. Surprisingly, some of the contestants failed to express themselves and still came out winners or otherwise blew it. Former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz gave a thought-provoking query: “Do you think you can be a good Catholic even if you believe in the RH bill?” And Ms. Beautiful replied: “Believing in the RH bill is good for us educated people. It’s really important for kids right now.”

To the question: “in this digital age where everything remains public on sites like Facebook, what do you think should remain private?”… one could just have chosen to be straightforward and blurt out “your sex life…” but another contestant chose to be incomprehensible by saying “your personality, your true intentions should be private.”

LOL kayo ha!

Beauty contests are really more fun in the Philippines….

Bb. Pilipinas 2013: our Top 10 finalists

Previously, I wrote about the Top 8 candidates who will make it to Bb. Pilipinas 2013. Since then, one of the bets we featured, Therese Fenger has withdrawn (reportedly due to a sexy FHM pictorial). So we’re revising our Top 8 list and making it to a Top 10. I am sure the rest of the country’s (gay) population are just excited as you and me about watching tomorrow’s pageant.

Who’s gonna make it to the Magic 10? Here’s our list:

1. Cassandra Naidas – her mom’s a Korean :)

7. Arielle Arida
8. Ria Rabajante
9. Bea Rose Santiago
10. Pia Wurtzbach

Bea Rose Santiago & Pia Wurtzbach for Bb. Pilipinas 2013

We’re watching Bb. Pilipinas 2013 live tomorrow, and this is supposed to be a big event since the pageant is celebrating 50 golden years! Before this, I had the chance to view the candidates up close when they visited our company, Casino Filipino, which is a major sponsor. This year’s batch is lovely indeed, and we could just ogle at the girls’ uber-slim, whistle-bait figures.

This blog is betting on at least two ladies to become top placers of Bb. Pilipinas 2013: Bea Rose Santiago (schooled in Canada but representing Masbate City) and Pia Wurtzbach of Cagayan de Oro.

Up close, Bea Rose exudes the disposition of a beauty queen and reminds one of a title holder of yore, Chiqui Brosas. For me, she has the “it” factor and could have the edge over the other finalists in the Question and Answer portion. According to her Bb. Pilipinas bio, she loves to travel and was once in 12 cities in 2 countries, in just two months. She’s 22 years old and stands five feet 10 inches.

Pia Wurtzbach is no stranger to showbusiness, being known by her screen name Pia Romero in ABS-CBN. She’s 23 years old and stands five feet nine inches.

Good luck girls! :)
