As you all know, BlackBerry set out to release their popular messaging platform BBM yesterday for Android and the iPhone. While iPhone users are already enjoying the app, Android users were left out waiting. Here’s BlackBerry’s explanation for the late release.
As most of us are aware of, an unreleased or leaked version of the BBM for Android app has been posted online and went functional since last night. According to BlackBerry, it registered 1.1 million active users in the first 8 hours without even launching the official Android app and, as a result, caused issues which the company tried to address the whole day.

What’s the plan then? BlackBerry is, as of the moment, pausing the global roll-out of BBM for Android including the iPhone. Users who have already downloaded BBM for iPhone will be able to continue to use BBM while the unreleased Android app will be disabled.
As soon as the issues are fixed, BlackBerry will begin a staggered country roll-out of BBM for Android and continue the roll-out of BBM for iPhone. The company also advise users to follow @BBM on Twitter or sign-up on www.BBM.com to get the latest updates.
