ASUS VivoBook S551 hands-on

Last night, we got to play around with some of the Haswell-powered Windows 8 touchscreen ultrabooks during the local launch of Intel’s 4th generation Core processors. One of those machines is the 15.6-inch ASUS VivoBook S551.

The VivoBook S551 was globally announced last month and sits above the VivoBook S400. Although it has a relatively large footprint thanks to the 15.6-inch touchscreen display, it still managed to look sleek and slim at 21mm and weighs 2.4kg. The body is made of aluminum with hairline finish while the overall look itself is reminiscent of the ZenBook.

Aside from the large Glare Type LCD HD (1366 x 768) touch panel, it also has a full set of ports like USB 2.0 (2x), USB 3.0, HDMI out, SD Card reader and a DVD combo drive.

Running under the S551′s hood is an Intel Core i7-4500U processor clocked 1.8Ghz, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD 4400, NVIDIA GeForce GT740M GPU, and a 500GB HDD. Below is the result of the S551′s WEI. Do note that the S551 isn’t utilizing the NVIDIA GPU at this assessment.

As of the moment we still don’t have info on pricing and availability. ASUS may also offer different configurations of the S551 when it’s made available locally. ASUS PH will surely hold a launch event for the VivoBook S551 so stay tuned for that.

Update: We just got word that the ASUS VivoBook S551will be priced under Php50k when it hit the local shelves.
