Philippine holidays 2014 & the 12-day very long weekend in December

There is always something to be hopeful with each start of the year. New adventures, new resolutions, plans are either changed or refreshed & a list of things to do are drawn up.

People also start vacation planning this early, especially at this time when travel deals and promo seat sales abound.

Anyway, it’s still a long way to go but some working folks are already excited about December 2014 when you can stretch your vacation to a record 12 days, extending up to the long New Year 2015 weekend!

Here’s how it looks in the calendar:

2014 calendar

December 24 & 25 falls on a Wednesday, Thursday

December 26, which is on a Friday, has been declared a special non-working holiday by President Aquino

December 27 and 28 – Saturday and Sunday

December 29 – save your vacation credit for this one because…

December 30 is a national holiday, being Rizal Day

December 31 is another declared special non-working holiday, being the last day of the year

January 1, 2015 – a Thursday. Happy New Year!

January 2, 2015 – it’s a Friday and you will probably be too sick to go to work, having been stoned the night before. Besides, it’s the weekend already.

January 3 & 4 – Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy!

A friend also emailed me about August 2014 being special this year. It has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays and that means 5 weekends too. The Chinese call this occurrence ‘silver pockets full.’ Treasure this because it happens only once every 823 years and yeah, we won’t be alive for the next time it happens :)

Have a happy, lucky 2014 everyone!
