A lot has changed since Google unveiled the Nexus 5 back in 2013. As such, the search giant made sure that they equip the Nexus 5X with all the right tools to be competitive in today’s smartphone scene.

Almost all of the features found on the previous model were upgraded on the Nexus 5X which include a bigger screen, beefier battery pack and more powerful engine. More importantly, the few features that were not improved remained at par with Nexus 5X’s precursor.

The only thing that changed is the price. During its debut, the 16GB variant of the Nexus 5 retailed for $349. The base model of the new Nexus 5X, on the other, will hit the store shelves with a $379 price tag.

Winning features

LG Nexus 5X:
* Thinner design
* Improved processor
* Larger camera pixels on rear camera w/ Laser AF
* Higher resolution video recording
* Front camera has higher resolution
* Updated Bluetooth
* USB Type-C
* Nexus Imprint
* Slightly larger battery pack

LG Nexus 5:
* Better pixel density on the screen
* A bit more lightweight
* Cheaper SRP during first market release

The new Google Nexus 5X is now available for pre-order on Google Store. It will be available in 16GB and 32GB and are priced at $379 and $429 respectively.

Specs Comparison: Motorola Nexus 6 VS Huawei Nexus 6P

One can make the argument that last year’s Nexus smartphone, the Motorola Nexus 6, wasn’t exactly a hit. The being said, the search giant is looking to turn things around with their new flagship smartphone, the Google Nexus 6P.

With the exception of the screen size, the Huawei Nexus 6P clearly has the upper hand in almost every facet against its precursor when it comes to specification. Obviously, this is expected from a newer device, otherwise Google will definitely take some heat from the specs junkies.

Although the screen of the Nexus 6P has shrunk a bit compared to the Motorola-made Nexus smartphone, Google has maintained the quad-HD resolution on their latest flagship handset, resulting to a more pixel-packed display that has a pixel density of 518 ppi.

Nexus 6P camera

Another thing that’s worth mentioning is the camera. From the pixel count standpoint, the Nexus 6P’s rear camera was a downgrade from the Nexus 6’s 13-megapixel rear snapper. In exchange though, the search giant increased the pixel size on the newer model, which in theory should result to better image quality.

Unlike the rear camera, the Nexus 6P’s front camera received a significant increase in resolution. From 2-megapixel sensor found on the Motorola Nexus 6, the resolution of the Nexus 6P’s front-mounted snapper was bumped up to 8-megapixel.

Some of the things that was not mentioned in the specs sheet above that is worth noting is the addition of the USB Type-C port on the Nexus 6P and the addition of the Nexus Imprint, which is a fancy term that Google uses for the fingerprint sensor.

Speaking of things that were not mentioned on the specs sheets of these two Nexus smartphones, Google has ditched the metal-plastic material from the previous model and has gone all-metal on the Nexus 6P. The search giant was also able to make the Nexus 6P thinner, lighter and more compact than its predecessor despite only shaving 0.2mm off the screen size.

Winning features

Huawei Nexus 6P:
* Thinner and lighter design
* Better materials used for body
* Better pixel density on the screen
* Improved processor
* Larger storage capacity
* Larger camera pixels on rear camera w/ Laser AF

Samsung Galaxy Note 5:
* Bigger Display
* Rear camera has slightly higher resolution
* Radio

The new Google Nexus 6P will be available for pre-order on Google Store starting today. It will be offered in three storage capacities (32GB, 64GB and 128GB) and are priced at $499, $549 and $649 respectively.
