First look at the Xiaomi MiPad

One of the many items that was on display at the Mi Exclusive Service Center is the Xiaomi MiPad, a 7.9-inch Android tablet that has yet to be officially released in the local market.

At first glance, the MiPad bares a faint semblance to the iPad Mini which is mainly attributed to the similarly-sized display (7.9-inch) with the exact same resolution (2048 x 1536) of Apple’s second-generation iPad Mini.

The dimension of the MiPad is also somewhat similar to the iPad Mini 2, albeit slightly longer, wider and a full millimeter thicker than Apple’s smaller slate.

The similarity between the two tablets quickly dissipated when we picked up the MiPad. Instead of an aluminum back cover, the MiPad’s plastic posterior has a glossy finish to it.

The MiPad’s rear camera is placed at the upper left corner of the back panel which is placed near the Power and Volume rocker that are situated at the slate’s right flank.

One of the things that set this tablet apart from most Android tablets is the use of NVidia Tegra K1 processor which is paired with 2GB of RAM. The one on display at the service center is equipped with an expandable 16GB of internal storage, but a 64GB variant is available at Xiaomi’s online store.

During our short time with the MiPad, its engine held up quite nicely. Apps, both native and third-party, loaded fairly quickly and the navigating through various menus was buttery-smooth.

Xiaomi Opens First Service Center in PH

Xiaomi Philippines invited a few tech bloggers to witness the official launch of the company’s first Mi Exclusive Service Center in the country.

Steve Vickers, Xiaomi General Manager for Southeast Asia, was present during the opening and gave the attendees a quick tour of the newly-opened facility located at 2nd Floor of One Kennedy Place, Club Filipino Drive, Greenhills, San Juan City.

During his short speech, Vickers was keen to point out that they aim to provide the best possible service to their customer through their first MI Exclusive Service Center or have their device serviced in any of the seven (7) authorized service centers with over fifty (50) drop-off points around the country.

He also adds that customers who chose to bring their device on the company’s first service center will benefit from the quick turnaround time which, according to Vickers, can go as fast as two hours. If one of the highly-trained staffs deemed that the device under warranty can no longer be serviced, the center can even replace the defective device!

34 Excuses for Why We Failed at Love, by Warsen Shire

I copied this poem by hand in my notebook so I could meditate upon each word. To quote Baba Yaga the poet, “You must know every contour of yr emptiness before you can know who you wish to invite in.”

1) I’m lonely so I do lonely things

2) Loving you was like going to war; I never came back the same person

3) You hate women, just like your father and his father, so it runs in your blood

4) I was wandering the derelict car park of your heart looking for a ride home

5) You’re a ghost town I’m too patriotic to leave

6) I stay because you’re the beginning of a dream I want to remember

7) I didn’t call him back because he likes his girls voiceless

8) It’s not that he wants to be a liar; it’s just that he doesn’t know the truth

9) I couldn’t love you, you were a small war

10) We covered the smell of loss with jokes

11) I didn’t want to fail at love like our parents

12) You made the nomad in me build a house and stay

13) I’m not a dog

14) We were trying to prove our blood wrong

15) I was lonely so I did even lonelier things

16) Yes, I’m insecure, but so was my mother and her mother

17) No, he loves me he just makes me cry a lot

18) He knows all of my secrets and still wants to kiss me

19) You were too cruel to love for a long time

20) It just didn’t work out

21) My dad walked out one afternoon and never came back

22) I can’t sleep because I can still taste him in my mouth

23) I cut him out at the root, he was my favorite tree, rotting, threatening the foundations of my home

24) The women in my family die waiting

25) Because I didn’t want to die waiting for you

26) I had to leave, I felt lonely when he held me

27) You’re the song I rewind until I know all the words and I feel sick

28) He sent me a text that said “I love you so bad”

29) His heart wasn’t as beautiful as his smile

30) We emotionally manipulated each other until we thought it was love

31) Forgive me, I was lonely so I chose you

32) I’m a lover without a lover

33) I’m lovely and lonely

34) I belong deeply to myself
