Sun Cellular now offers LTE with 4GB at Plan 999

Lazada Philippines

We just discovered an LTE service to be offered by Sun Cellular along with a postpaid plan and LTE devices. Starting with LTE Plan 999, the service comes with either an LTE stick or LTE pocket WiFi.

The LTE USB modem comes with a cash-out of Php2,800 for a 12-month contract. The LTE Pocket WiFi has a cash-out of Php1,500 but with shorter 12-month contract.

If you don’t want any holding period, the cash-out is Php4,500 for the pocket WiFi and Php3,500 for the USB modem.

There’s a SIM only Plan 999 with no cash-out and just 3 months lock-in.

All Sun Cellular LTE plans come with a 4GB bandwidth allocation.

Closer Look: Xiaomi Mi Powerbank 5400mAh

Lazada Philippines

After that much-hype Xiaomi Mi Powerbank sale over at Lazada the other day, we managed to purchase a unit which arrived today. Unfortunately, the 10,000mAh variant was sold out in under a minute and we only managed to get the 5400mAh at Php450.

For a Php450 powerbank, we didn’t expect much from the Xiaomi Mi Powerbank. However, after receiving the package from Lazada this morning, we were thoroughly impressed at the build quality and craftsmanship Xiaomi has put on this little device.

The design is simple and elegant, reminds us of the old iPod Nano from many years ago. If it wasn’t for that small Mi logo, you’d expect it was Apple that created this powerbank. The attention to detail, the premium feel and monochromatic touches give it that perception.

The size is just right, not too heavy and very pocketable. Came with a short charging cable but we wish they also included a cloth pouch so the aluminum case won’t get exposed and scratched easily.

The Mi Powerbank has one microUSB port for input charging (2A) and a regular USB port for output charging (1.5A) with 4 LED indicators to show battery status.

At Php450 (plus Php55 shipping), we’re not surprised why it was sold out very quickly during the Lazada sale.

Kata M2 unboxed, first impressions

Lazada Philippines

Kata Digital has recently released a new flagship Android phone in the market, the Kata M2, which retails for Php7,999.

We received a unit to check out over the week-end and immediately unboxed it since it’s the first time we’ve had the chance to review a handset from Kata.

The device comes with a huge white box, has a Kata Cloud card voucher worth Php1,200. That entitles the user to an additional 25GB of online storage on top of the initial 5GB free when you activate your account with the handset.

The box also includes an M2 screen protector, a micro-USB charger, Kata M2 smartcase and Smart Bro 3G Sim with Php100 load.

katam2specs

Even at just 5.5-inch, the handset is quite big and hefty on the hands. It is probably the heaviest handset we’ve ever held — close to half a pound (0.47lbs) or 215g. It’s pretty solid and perhaps that metallic body and construction.

Despite the large profile, the device is still very slim at only 7.98mm. The combination of polycarbonate material and metal framing give the M2 that classic industrial look and you can feel the cold-ness of that thick aluminum frame when you hold it in your hands.

The power button and volume rocker are on the right side while the 3.5mm audio port and micro-USB charging port are on the top end. At the back is the 13MP rear camera that protrudes slightly with the LED flash just below it.

The speaker is flushed at the bottom corner with the Kata logo along witt it. The back cover has a matte finish with a textured pattern that resembles that carbon fibre look.

Up at the front are the 5MP front camera ad the capacitive buttons (Settings, Home, Back). The M2 runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with Vanilla UI and very little customization.

Kata added several pre-installed apps like Kata Cloud, Wipe Out, Fish Market (app library) and WPS Office.

Kata Digital M2 specs:
5.5-inch Super HD display @ 720×1280 pixels
Mediatek MTK6582 1.3GHz quad-core prcoessor
1GB RAM
16GB internal storage
up to 32GB via microSD
3G quad-band
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0
13MP rear camera
5MP front-facing camera
Android 4.4 KitKat
Li-Po 2,300mAh battery

Kata held a one-day sale for the first 1,000 M2 customers where they gave each buyer a Php1,000 discount putting the price at just Php6,999.
