Turn your iPhone into a Gameboy with G-Pad

Nintendo Gameboy consoles may have seen better days, but its legacy (and some of its popular game titles) still lives on through various emulators. However, in the touchscreen-dominated-world we live in, on-screen buttons just doesn’t offer the same level of gusto as thumbing on a set of physical buttons.

This is where the G-Pad comes in; a small silicon sleeve that fits nicely into an iPhone 5/5S, iPhone 5C, iPod Touch 5th Gen and iPad Mini. No fancy features, no extra batteries, just a set of buttons that lays on top of the screen which kicks the Gameboy experience up a notch.

The G-Pad was created by a British designer, Aws Jan, who has just recently taken the project to Indiegogo in the hopes of raising $16,000 or more in order for his invention to enter mass production. By the looks of it, it seems that he’s well on his way to do just that.

If everything goes according to plan, the G-Pad will eventually be retailed for USD33 (w/o tax and shipping), but users can take advantage of the “Early Bird” promo and get the sleeve for only USD13 or the New Easter Offer for USD18.

For more information about the G-Pad and other pledge tiers, you can check out its Indiegogo page on the source link below.

Cherry Mobile Omega Spectrum VS MyPhone Agua Rio

Local brands Cherry Mobile and MyPhone have already released their aggressively priced Android smartphones – the Omega Spectrum and the Agua Rio. Both are priced at Php4,999 with almost the same specs. Let’s compare both phones and find out which one is better on paper.

Based on the specs listed above, there’s not much difference when it comes to hardware aside from having different chipsets and external designs. The Rio has the advantage of having a slightly higher CPU clock speed and more color options. The Spectrum, on the other hand, packs Dragontrail glass and support for Miracast. It’s a close fight.

At this point, it’s too early to conclude which phone is the best as we’re yet to get our hands on these devices and see how they perform in the real world.

Some of our readers who have bought the Rio pointed out experiencing lags due to some software issues. The Spectrum was just released today but if you have already bought it, feel free to share your experiences below.

Google contact lens with built-in microcameras patented

Google scores a patent on a “smart” contact lens system that users could control by the way they blink their eyes. People with eye problems (even the blind) can greatly take advantage of this new technology. Find out why after the jump.

The futuristic contact lenses was reported to have embedded microcameras (take note, more than one). These microcameras are impressively small that they don’t affect the thickness of an ordinary contact lens. Once worn, they line up to the iris in a way that it can “look” where you’re currently looking. To control these contact lenses, a system will be developed that will understand the user’s blinks as it corresponds to specific functions or commands.

Apart from not looking like a total geek by wearing these contact lenses instead of the Google Glass, Patentbolt shares that they can be used to help people with eye problems and even save lives. The lenses could alert the user’s paired device (such as a smartphone) when a dangerous instance arises.

“For example, a blind person wearing Google’s contact lens with a built-in camera may be walking on a sidewalk and approaching an intersection. The analysis component of the contact lens can process the raw image data of the camera to determine processed image data indicating that the blind person is approaching intersection with a crosswalk and establish that there is a car approaching the intersection,” Patentbolt explained.

We’re only scratching the surface here when it comes to functionalities. We’re sure that as time progresses, the company will be able to come up with more use for this technology that looks like it came from a sci-fi movie. We’re also pretty sure that it will stir some reactions regarding issues like invasion of privacy as Google Glass is already experiencing as of now.
