Macasaet, Malaya publisher arrested

by Abigail Kwok
Inquirer.net

A newspaper publisher was arrested Thursday and was brought to the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame, Quezon City over a nine-year-d libel case filed by former government officials.

Jake Macasaet, 72, of Malaya was arrested by operatives of the Detective and Special Operations Division (DSOD) of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), as he was having lunch at the Century Park Hotel in Manila, said CIDG public information officer Felix Vargas.

The warrant of arrest, which was served by Senior Superintendent Benedicto Gorospe, was issued by Judge Emma Young of Branch 36 of the Manila regional trial court for a libel case filed against Macasaet by former Rizal governor Casimiro Ynares and Narciso Santiago, husband of Senator Miriam Santiago.

Masskara Festival 2008 Music is finally out!

The Masskara Festival 2008 Music is finally out! I have been waiting for this since first week of August. Until todaywhen Masskara Festival Streetdance Committee chair Mr. Rudy Reveche sent me a copy of the official streetdance music that will be used on October 16 for the Schools Category, October 17 for the Barangay Category and October 18 for the Open Category of the Bacolod Masskara Festival.

The music is a combination of both old and new. For one, it is quite interesting to note that the organizers have adopted an instrumental music. No vocals, no rap whatsoever. The music is a rehash of old Masskara songs “Sigue lang Sigue na” as well as a few Ilonggo folks songs.

In my opinion this music is way better than the ones produced between year 2004-2007. It has removed the very awkward rap segment in the music. And the return of the original Latin beat to it.

It is also great to note that they have used local or Asian musical instruments just like what they did in 2005. (Masskara Music2005 instrumental version was good, too)

And though this is just an instrumental music, I would not be surprised to see the locals humming this because the folk songs included are the very familiar and common ones. The same folk songs that were included in last years music.
