BYAHILO at the Broadway hit musical Avenue Q

It was another kind of journey I ventured to last weekend when I went to the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Tower Makati City Philippines to watch the farewell run of the Broadway hit musical “Avenue Q.”

Avenue Q

The multi-awarded Broadway musical play Avenue Q was actually never part of my weekend itinerary. I was supposed to stay longer at the 2008 Manila Toycon in SM Megamall and go to Cubao for an event with Manila’s premier tour guide Carlos Celdran. But just before I left home, Nina buzzed my Yahoo! Messanger and asked me if I want to join her watching the show. I agreed.

The main stars of the show Kate Monster and Princeton are actually puppets. Kate Monster is being handled by international theatre star Carla Guevarra and Princeton is handled by Felix Rivera. Other stars include Aiza Seguerra, Joel Trinidad, Frenchie Dy, Rycharde Everley, and Tenee Chan.

I loved the show so much. It made me laugh, almost shed a tear and made me reflect on what is really my purpose in life. I was held breathless when Carla Guevarra sang the song “There’s a fine, fine line.” It was rendered so beautifully. She gave so much life to the character of Kate Monster. I also love how Carla handled Lucy T. Slut. Yeah, it was slutty, but done in a very artistic way. Love it!

I also like the character of Princeton. Felix Rivera is just so perfect for the role. The voice of Felix just fits right for the character. Oh, and the love scene? I was so hilarious. I almost screamed “Schadenfreude!”

The very last show of Avenue Q will be this coming June 21, 2008 at 8PM. Tickets are available at Ticketworld

Catch this Broadway hit before they finally pack their bags and say Hello to Singapore. Yup, Kate Monster, Princeton, Christmas Eve and the Gang will all be moving the Avenue Q to Singapore for a series of shows at the Lion City.

Oh, and if you love the songs that you just want to play it in your iPod over and over and over, download the Broadway Musical Avenue Q mp3 here.

Twin adventures in Coron Palawan at the Kayangan Lake and the Barracuda Lake

The Kayangan Lake and the Barracuda Lake are just two of the spots we had when we recently went island hopping around the Island of Coron in Palawan Philippines.

Kayangan Lake

When we were still on the planning stage, nobody ever mentioned that I need to actually climb a limestone cliff just to enjoy the beauty of Barracuda Lake, and hike a hill to take a dip in the brackish water of Kayangan Lake.

Barracuda Lake, as the name may have implied actually does have barracudas swimming in its pristine waters. The area is so wide and very clean, and the water very, very deep. The view is just so amazing. But why didn’t Ferdz tell me that I need to actually climb a limestone cliff just to see this place? Darn. But all the adrenaline rush, excitement and all the scratches in my knees are all worth the adventure. Words are not enough to explain how beautiful Barracuda Lake is. But the other half of fun awaits at the Kayangan Lake in Coron Island.

Barracuda Lake

Kayangan Lake for so many times has been declared as the cleanest lake in the Philippines. There are no more limestone cliffs to climb but one needs to climb a hill and descend on its other side to explore the lake.

Except for the two jolly kids playing in the deep water, the entire Kayangan Lake in Palawan is all for us. We really had so much fun swimming and diving as there were no other tourists at that time.

Barracuda Lake

Unlike the Barracuda Lake, Kayangan is much cleaner and its bottom is still very visible. That is why I had more fun swimming in Kayangan Lake. The water in Kayangan is brackish. It’s not fresh water, but not too salty like the from the seas of Palawan. It’s just half and half. There are several fishes swimming in the lake and it looks like they are already used to swimming with the tourists. They’re not intimidated by our presence at all.

Kayangan Lake

It is also interesting to note that the new TV show telenovela of GMA, Dyesebel with Marian Rivera was taped in Kayangan Lake. Now I wonder how they were able to get all those equipments and the GMA celebrities hike a hill leading to the Kayangan Lake of Palawan.

Barracuda Lake

Entrance to the Barracuda Lake is 75Pesos (with all the limestone cliff climb), and Kayangan Lake is 200 Pesos per person. Entrance fees are used to maintain the pristine quality of these twin lakes.
